Emmanuel College recently sent its SIFE team to Atlanta where they had a meeting with Governor Sonny Perdue. Pictured above with Governor Perdue (center) and team sponsor Dr. Ed Weldon (right) are team members Bettina Israel, Opal Williams, Tameka Redd, John Leviner, Luis Lopez, Heber Lopez, and Fabiola Pino.

SIFE (Students in Free Enterprise) is a college student organization for students interested in business. It allows students to pursue their career interests in ways no other collegiate organization can equal.  Students are given opportunities to develop and strengthen valuable skills, and are then given access to employment opportunities requiring those skills. The mission of SIFE is to provide college students the best opportunity to make a difference and to develop leadership, teamwork, and communication skills through learning, practicing, and teaching the principles of free enterprise.

The purposes in EC’s SIFE Team visit with the governor were to:

  • acquaint the governor with the SIFE mission and potential.,
  • describe some of the SIFE projects for this year, such as the Battered Women’s Shelter, and
  • explore additional ways that Georgia can support students who are interested in a business career.
