Relay for Life of Madison County a Big Success

The American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life of Madison County was held on May 2–3 and raised $92,616.57 for the Society’s research, education, advocacy and service programs. The Relay For Life brought out 900 participants on 25 teams. During the Survivors Lap, 190 survivors circled the track and were recognized for winning the battle against cancer. A total of 1,900 luminaria bags circled the track in honor of those touched by cancer and in memory of those lost to the disease. [Read more →]

Ah, spring! A time when a young man’s fancy turns to thoughts of honey bee swarms. Honey bee swarms? That’s right, honey bee swarms. I am already getting calls about honey bees swarming.
Any time we see large numbers of flying insects, especially ones with stingers, we tend to get a bit concerned. However, honey bees are our friends. They are one of the most beneficial of all insects. Honey is humanity’s oldest sweet, and beeswax was the first plastic. Today, honey bees provide these and other valuable hive products. Life has been busy and full since Lane’s and my first issue of The Good Life went out. We have celebrated Mother’s Day, and for many excited children and young people, the end of the school year. Many of you have endured the seemingly endless stanzas of “Pomp and Circumstance” as you proudly watched your graduate receive his or her diploma. And in a couple of weeks it will be Dad’s time to be honored. Our lives are filled with traditions and events we have happily celebrated generation after generation.

Would you consider lifestyle choices such as exercise, eating nutritious foods, drinking lots of water, and getting good rest and sleep an act of worship? Lately, that has been my conviction. The Bible teaches us to “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.” It is my newest conviction that the general way I have been eating, drinking, my inactivity, and my sleeping habits have not been done in such a way to love God.
