Mr. Bill tried to tell me!  For years I heard him describe how snorkeling revealed hidden beauties.  I couldn’t imagine myself in that breathing apparatus, sounding like Darth Vader. Finally, several years ago I snorkeled with Mr. Bill off the Mayan Coast of Mexico.  The crystal clear Caribbean waters held a world of incredible treasures: brilliant coral reefs and fish with more colors than anything I’d seen from Georgia’s muddy banks. Mr. Bill was right!  Oh, no! Did I say that?

A Night of Fine Arts at Barnes Academy

Barnes Academy, a K–12 Christian school in Hartwell, hosted its third annual “Night of Fine Arts” April 3. The students presented a wide range of artistic creation and performance:  painting, woodworking, sewing, cross stitching, photography, monochromatic drawing, charcoal drawings, acrylic paintings, ceramics, jewelry making, writing essays, writing poetry, singing in groups, vocal solos, instrumental solos, skits, poetry recitation, and sign interpretation. Amputating Your Azaleas

“Have loppers, will prune” is often the thought in many people’s heads as we approach spring. This is fine for some plants in the landscape, while it is a major “oops” for others. Azaleas are the perfect example. Prune them before they bloom, and “oops” you have really messed up!

Pruning azaleas at the wrong time of year will ruin their expected flush of flowers. The inclination for most folks is to get out and prune everything at the end of February or once the temperatures begin to rise. However, the best time to prune, or cut back, azaleas is not until right after the flowers have faded or fallen off. There are two important reasons to prune at this time. [Read more →]

The Helping Hands of Habitat for Humanity

Another family now has a home in North Georgia, thanks to the gifts and hard work of many people. Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry, and the Madison County chapter has purchased a 10-acre tract in Comer on which to build a series of homes for people in need. At the dedication of the second completed home, Sunday, April 13, Rachel Slack received the traditional Bible and house keys. Enjoying the new home with Rachel will be her two daughters Risha and Nicole. [Read more →]

I’ve Heard of Email, but What’s an Ebook?

The short answer is an ebook is like a book in the same way that email is like mail. They all four have words (and sometimes pictures). The primary difference is the way they’re published: mail and books are on paper; email and ebooks are in computer files which can be transmitted across the Internet.

Millions of people in the United States and around the world have email addresses and use them to exchange messages with friends, family, and others. But a much smaller number buy and read ebooks. In fact, the chances are good that you are an email user, but have never seen an ebook. [Read more →]
